Mac and cheese with a crunchy topping—what could be better?

Ingredients

  • Macaronis
  • Lait
  • Cheddar râpé
  • Chapelure panko
  • Bacon en miettes

Also needed

  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) butter
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) flour

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 205°C (400°F).
  2. Cook the pasta al dente in a large pot of boiling, salted water. Drain.
  3. In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, stir and cook for 1 minute. Pour in the milk and bring to a boil, whisking.
  4. Add the cheese and stir until it has melted. Mix in the pasta.
  5. Transfer the pasta and sauce to a 20 cm (8 in) round or square baking dish or 4 ramekins.
  6. In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the bacon bits. Sprinkle over the macaroni. Bake for 10 minutes.
