Mac and cheese with a crunchy topping—what could be better?
Also needed
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) butter
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) flour
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 205°C (400°F).
- Cook the pasta al dente in a large pot of boiling, salted water. Drain.
- In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, stir and cook for 1 minute. Pour in the milk and bring to a boil, whisking.
- Add the cheese and stir until it has melted. Mix in the pasta.
- Transfer the pasta and sauce to a 20 cm (8 in) round or square baking dish or 4 ramekins.
- In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the bacon bits. Sprinkle over the macaroni. Bake for 10 minutes.
